Steven Daverson (*1985) is a European composer whose work explores apparent paradoxes that arise from destructive musical forces, drawing on impossible or illogical spaces and scenarios in literature, cinema, and visual art. The music is fleeting and ephemeral, and yet possesses a latent violence that threatens to surface.
His music has been performed in the UK, Europe, and the US by major ensembles and soloists; and programmed at international festivals and concert series in Aldeburgh, Unerhörte Musik, Darmstadt, Huddersfield, Music of Today, Traiettorie Parma,, and Witten and Musik der Zeit. A portrait CD—Shadow Walker—is available on col legno.
The recipient of Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung Composers’ Prize in 2011, and the RPS Composition Prize in the same year, other prizes include the Mendelssohn Scholarship in 2008, and winner of the Jurgenson Competition in 2009. He was a Fellow at the Internationales Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia, Bamberg as a guest of the Bavarian Ministry of Culture in 2019/20.
Daverson received his doctorate from the Royal College of Music and his BMus from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM).
He currently teaches composition at the RNCM and the University of Cambridge.
